Almost every day you hear or read of reports of crimes committed with a gun. These news are often sensationalized to get maximum effect and you often come away from such news feeling like there ought to be more being done about “gun control”. I used to feel that way too, until I met and married a man who is a gun enthusiast, who believes in the citizen’s right to keep and bear arms, and the right of the individual to use his firearm in defense of his person and property.
What is outrageous about the mainstream media is the sensationalizing of gun related deaths but hardly a peep about lives saved because a gun was used in defense of those lives.
How many of us know that 1,777,545 criminal attacks have been stopped by guns since January 1, 2007? How about this little known fact? That every 13 seconds there is one defensive gun use? These are amazing facts yet by the sound and hysteria made by the anti-gun crowd, you would think the opposite is true!
Last weekend I got to go target shooting. Friends from Malaysia who saw my pictures were either impressed that I got to handle real guns or afraid for me that I was around such lethal weapons! My husband is an able instructor and knows all about gun safety. That is why I am being taught how to handle a gun correctly and safely, and if I am ever, God forbid, forced to use a gun in defense, I’d better know how to use it, and use it with maximum effect!
