  • Hand-stitched quilts

June 28th, 2008 Puteri Posted in Craft/Hobbies No Comments »

These are just a few of the quilts that my cousin’s wife made. She stitched everything by hand except for the borders and the lining.

I was quite impressed because the different kinds of fabrics (cotton, polyester etc) all came together beautifully. Most of the fabric was bought from tailors in town who have left over fabric from their clients.

I would not have the patience to cut the templates necessary for the patterns, then loosely stitch the small pieces of fabric to the template and then hand stitch all the pieces together to form the pattern and the finished quilt!

Kudos to her and a job well done on each of the quilts!

    New quilting clients

May 9th, 2008 Puteri Posted in Craft/Hobbies No Comments »

I just received a call from a lady who had seen my machine quilting work from a regular client of mine. She said she was impressed with my work and would like me to look at three quilt tops she’d done to see if I was interested in finishing then for her.

Of course I would, but unfortunately, I will be out of the country for about three months and won’t be able to take in any more quilts right now. I told her I could do her quilts when I come back in August. And yes, she will wait for me.

Of course she would! My rates are much lower than what anybody else is charging out there! I would be doing more quilting and making more money there if I weren’t so addicted to blogging!

    Rita’s Quilt

    April 15th, 2008 Puteri Posted in Craft/Hobbies 2 Comments »

    Rita

This is Rita’s quilt that I managed to machine quilt in about an hour and a half. The pattern is a classic pattern called Flying Geese. I have been working hard to try and clear my back log of quilts this past couple of weeks. I am happy that I am on schedule!

Next week, we’ll be gone all week and that would mean a week off quilting. But thank goodness things are working out so much better than I anticipated.

Last Sunday I started on the quilt I promised one of my sisters-in-law. I don’t think I have enough of a particular fabric. I will have to check Joann and get some more. I hope they still have some in stock! If they don’t, er, I will have to improvise!

The pattern I chose is very simple. I don’t have the time to make a quilt that requires a lot of cutting and sewing. This particular pattern is simple and shows off the orange themed color really well. I will be posting a picture of the quilt once it is completed.

    Stay tuned!

    Magazines

April 15th, 2008 Puteri Posted in Craft/Hobbies No Comments »

I used to subscribe to about four magazines. Two conservative news magazines and two craft magazines. I have given up on the Beading and Crocheting magazines and kept the two conservative news magazines.

Today I received both of them at the same time and one had an extra piece of paper on the front telling me that it was the final issue! I don’t remember if I had renewed the subscription of the magazine because Doug takes care of that for me. I hate to give up those two magazines because by subscribing to them, I help support the cause of the conservative movement! :-)

Anyway, as to craft magazines, I still buy them every now and then whenever I see issues that seem interesting. It’s hard to walk by the magazine section at the supermarket and not bring home a copy of a quilting or beading magazine! And they are not cheap either! Well if you compare the supermarket price to the subscription price!

    Busy Quilting

April 11th, 2008 Puteri Posted in Craft/Hobbies No Comments »

I’ve been busy working on customers’ quilts the last week or so. I have to finish everything by the end of the month. Just as I thought I was making some headway finishing the quilts a customer called yesterday and told me she had two quilt tops to drop off. I could easily have said “No” because I didn’t have the time, but it was very difficult to say “No”! :-( Instead I told her, yes come any time to drop off the quilts. Arrrgghhh!

Now I think I will have to work weekends too! I am trying to finish everything as quickly as possible so that I can start on a quilt that I promised one of my sisters-in-law.

This quilt was made by Shirley, one of my regular customers. This was one of four that I machine quilted the last couple of weeks. I have eight quilts to go including the two that are coming tomorrow.

    Batik Quilt

    March 26th, 2008 Puteri Posted in Craft/Hobbies 10 Comments »

I have two quilts that I made about two years ago. They are all done except for the binding. The binding is not that difficult but being the procrastinator that I am, and also with other projects going on at the same time, it takes two years to really complete the quilt!

I trimmed the edges off both quilts last weekend, but besides that I have not cut the strips needed for the binding. I don’t know, maybe it will take a few more weeks before I really get on attaching the binding to the quilt!

This is one of the quilts. I bought a new mattress, much thicker than my previous one, and this large queen quilt will fit the new bed really well.

This is the wrong side of the quilt. I used a variegated thread in the bobbin so the quilting patterns will be visible. Duncan couldn’t resist doing snow angel moves because the white muslin reminded him of snow.

    Finish those quilts!

March 11th, 2008 Puteri Posted in Craft/Hobbies No Comments »

I have been neglecting my quilting business this past winter.  The main reason or should I use excuse was that the room was too cold.

Last week I completed one queen sized quilt for a regular client and I have yet to get started on a couple of baby quilts that this same client dropped off together with the queen sized quilt.

virginiasquilt.jpgVirginia’s Quilt which I finally got around to finishing last week!

This week, I have no more excuse not to get on with my quilting!  I had better get on with the baby quilts and another quilt that a friend had dropped off  several weeks ago.  Yesterday, another friend left a message on the phone telling me she’d like to drop off four quilts.

Boy, I am going to be busy!
