Petition to defend parents’ right to homeschool

by Puteri | March 11th, 2008

I was at my in-laws this past weekend and was therefore not that free to sit around in front of a computer! Err, I did manage to post two blog entries while there because of the unprecedented political events in Malaysia.

What I didn’t get to do was write any email or open any of the attachments in the email. One of friends had sent me an email asking me to go to a site where I could sign a petition in support of home schooling.

I think the recent ruling by a California court declaring that parents, unless they are credentialed teachers, do not have a constitutional right to home school their children is a travesty, and an interference in parents’ rights to educate their children the way they see fit.

I will most certainly sign any petition and write a letter protesting that decision to my elected representatives. The courts cannot decide on behalf of parents what is best for their children when it comes to their education.

If need be, the California state legislature needs to introduce a law allowing parents to home school their children within some reasonable prescribed parameters if necessary.

We do not need the courts to tell parents what they can and cannot do with the children’s education.

Yes,this is too much interference from the state. Good thing you are not facing anything like this in Texas!
