Incensed by video upload

BEIJING (Reuters) – An incensed Chinese couple, videotaped hugging and kissing on a subway platform, plan to sue the subway’s operator after the video was uploaded to Youtube and other Web sites, attracting thousands of hits.

The three-minute video of the couple in their 20s was shot in September and uploaded to Youtube and Chinese video-sharing Web sites last week, Tuesday’s China Daily reported, citing a local newspaper.

It drew more than 15,000 hits in two days, it said.

“A mocking voice can be heard in the background of the video. It has extremely embarrassed the couple,” the paper said.

Full story here.

This story is a prime example of a total invasion of privacy. You might say that if the couple were willing to show their affection in public then they had forfeited their rights to privacy.

But that does not mean whoever it was who had access to the video, should get away with uploading the video on the internet for all and sundry to view!

I am glad the couple are suing the subway operator. Who knows how many other videos are out there, of couples having some affectionate moments, already uploaded on public video sharing websites?

I wonder if the former Health Minister of Malaysia is suing the hotel, who video taped him having sex in the hotel room, for invasion of privacy?

I think should sue the company. The CCTV is for security purpose and not meant for public viewing.

And to think, Malaysia will be installing CCTV’s on crime prone area….i hope no one will abuse this.

  4. Ya, the Dr Chua should sue the hotel, and the couple should sue the metro train operator.

CCTV on crime prone area is ok, but totally invading people’s privacy in hotel rooms, that is too much!! In England CCTV cameras are every where, and so far we have not heard any abuse related to the videos taken. But if Malaysia, not sure eh!
