Karate gear
There’s a martial arts studio that we pass by every time we go to our local supermarket. We usually see people in there dressed in what looks like karate sparring gear, going through their martial arts routines.
My nieces are all into the martial arts. I too, would like for my son to take up martial arts. The martial arts, like karate, is more than just about self-defense. I believe the martial arts teach discipline, self control, and respect for people in authority. I believe that someone who is trained in the martial arts will not be the one to start a confrontation. He or she would be more likely to walk away from a confrontation because he or she knows that getting into a confrontation, especially a physical one, is not going to make the situation better.
A friend said that if her kid knew karate a bully might not be likely to pick on her. I believe that is true. The fact that a kid knows how to defend himself or herself with some fancy karate moves is a great deterrent to a potential bully! Of course I would not encourage my kid to beat up on the bully if the bully tries to do anything!
Like I said, the martial arts is more than just about self-defense.
